Claude Code

Make and edit videos with Claude, using the Miraiclip plugin.

Coming in the next release

The plugin is built and tested, and ships with the next SDK release. It needs @miraiclip/mcp 0.1.4 or later, which is not on npm yet.

The Miraiclip plugin for Claude Code bundles the MCP server with skills that teach Claude how to edit well: pacing, type, motion, captions, and a review pass where it looks at its own frames before exporting.

claude plugin marketplace add comaniacs/miraiclip
claude plugin install miraiclip@miraiclip

Then make a folder for the video, put the media in it, and start Claude Code there:

mkdir launch-video && cd launch-video
# copy in footage, screenshots, logo, music…
claude
> Make a 30-second 16:9 launch video for our 2.0 release from notes.md and the screenshots in this folder.

What you need

RequirementWhy
Node.js 18+Runs the MCP server and helper scripts
Google ChromeFrame previews and MP4 export. Any Chromium works for WebM; set MIRAICLIP_BROWSER to its path
ffmpeg (with ffprobe)Reading media durations, silence detection, contact sheets
faster-whisper or openai-whisper (optional)Automatic transcripts for captions and talking-head cuts

Skills

Claude picks the skill from the request. You can also name it.

SkillUse it for
edit-videoAny edit, and choosing a workflow. Holds the shared rules and the craft reference
talking-headInterviews, podcasts, tutorials: cut pauses and filler words, punch-ins, karaoke captions, lower third
captionsCaptions on any video, five tested styles, SRT/VTT sidecar files
launch-videoProduct launches and explainers from a brief, screenshots and a logo, as HTML motion graphics
reformat16:9 ↔ 9:16, 1:1, 4:5 versions and social cut-downs
screen-tutorialScreen recordings into tutorials and walkthroughs: zoom on the action, speed up waiting, hold frames, blur private data, step callouts and chapters
make-templateReusable themed templates with a form of fields, in four themes and 16:9 + 9:16, checked frame by frame in the React studio

How Claude works on a video

  1. Reads the project (get_state) and registers your media with real durations.
  2. Writes a short plan (for launch videos, a scene list).
  3. Applies the plan as one apply_commands batch, so it undoes as one step.
  4. Looks at the result: preview_frame for single moments, and a contact sheet of a draft export for motion and pacing.
  5. Fixes what it sees, then exports.

Everything Claude does is a normal Miraiclip command saved in video.miraiclip.json, so you can open the same project in an editor built on Miraiclip and keep editing by hand.

One folder, one video

The plugin's server edits ./video.miraiclip.json in the folder Claude Code starts in, and media paths resolve against that folder. Start Claude Code in a different folder for each video.

VariableDefaultWhat it changes
MIRAICLIP_PROJECTvideo.miraiclip.jsonProject file
MIRAICLIP_ASSETSthe project file's folderBase folder for media paths
MIRAICLIP_BROWSERinstalled Google ChromeChrome or Chromium binary
MIRAICLIP_MCP@miraiclip/mcp@^0.1.4npm spec of the server, or a path to a local cli.js build

Helper CLI

The skills call scripts/mc.mjs in the plugin. It prints commands for Claude to apply and never writes the project itself.

CommandWhat it does
probe <files…>asset/add commands with duration, size and fps (ffprobe)
transcribe <media>Word timestamps with faster-whisper or openai-whisper
cuts <media> --words w.jsonRanges to keep after removing silences and filler words
recut --asset id --keep k.jsonBack-to-back clips for the kept ranges, plus a source → timeline map
captions <words|srt|vtt>Caption clips, grouped and styled, remapped through a recut
animate --clip id --in popThe editor's animation presets as keyframes
sheet <video>A contact sheet image, one frame per interval, for review
subtitles --format srtSRT, VTT or plain text from the project's caption clips

Without the plugin

Any MCP client can use the server alone; see MCP server. You get the tools without the skills.
